City Missions

Metrobrook began to partner with a local inner city church, Liberty and Truth Ministries, in 2008. Liberty and Truth is a Bible preaching, Spirit-led church on 61st and Fond Du Lac Ave. They are lead by Pastor Darryl and Marla Seay. In 2008 together we opened a SAY YES Center which is an afterschool program for elementary students that emphasizes tutoring, mentoring and Bible lessons. We have had several people from Metrobrook volunteering at the Center in the past two years as well as many people helping with supplies that are needed. The goal in our partnership was always to expand the opportunities beyond just the SAY YES Center. We also helped them repair their badly damaged roof through holding a rummage sale last summer and giving part of our Advent Conspiracy donations at Christmas. As most of you will remember in April of this year we invited L & T to join us for a worship service. It was a blessed time where we saw God really bring two very different congregations together in a way that can be explained in only one way: The Holy Spirit. We’re beginning to see that even though we are culturally different we have common ground around the cross. Both congregations are excited about seeing this partnership grow..

There are many ways for you to get involved and many different levels of commitment are needed. Right away we are going to start supporting L & T’s food pantry and clothing closet. These are open weekly and get quite a bit of traffic. We are going to start monthly drives to collect items for these as well as for the SAY YES Center. This month & next we are collecting non-perishables. We will keep you updated each month on what is needed. So the lowest level of commitment would be to participate in these monthly drives. A step above that is to help staff or sort donations for these ministries. Another opportunity is to offer your areas of expertise as teachers for their social services classes that should be starting in the fall. They will need job skill classes, finance classes, Bible teaching classes, and much more. We will connect you directly with Pastor Darryl if you think you have something to offer. The SAY YES Center just finished it’s 2009-2010 session and will start back up in the fall. We are going to need volunteers to tutor, lead Bible lessons, pray, etc. Please consider getting involved in this important ministry. .

Currently we have a small team of people that is working on planning for and leading this ministry. We need more people particularly men to join this team. People who are passionate about serving this city, people who love to help organize and think about strategy, people who just love to join God in what he’s doing. .
